Cellini x Djalin x etc lab

Hidden Gems is a movement targeted at creating contemporary objects with traditional crafts and materials. Together with mentors from Cellini and Djalin, Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Product Design & Innovation students set out to experiment with the intricate techniques of weaving and wickering.

The students explored traditional materials under the guidance of weaving and wickering artisans in Lombok, Indonesia. They were guided and trained by Djalin designers and craftsmen on the application and approach of different weaving techniques. With this know-how, they students created modern contemporary living space objects with a touch of traditional techniques. This is a showcase of the design concepts developed.
